A statement on attack in Wakeley and a plea for peace, 16 April 2024.

Updated: Apr 20

On behalf of the Melkite Catholic Eparchy of Australia, New Zealand, and All Oceania, I express deep concern over the recent Wakeley attack, vehemently condemning all forms of violence.

I appeal for calmness and stress the significance of refraining from aggression or retaliation. Unity within our community is essential to ease tensions. I also urge compliance with the guidance of the NSW Police, advocating for prudence and collaboration.

We take comfort in knowing that the affected individuals are currently in a stable condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with them for a swift recovery.

Let us continue to pray for all affected and for peace in our State. Fostering peace and harmony requires expressions of kindness ad respect between people, regardless of their faith. Together, as a Church and a community in New South Wales, let us unite to foster peace, guided by the spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Yours sincerely in Christ,
